Lawns - Hitchin Gardener Services

Sometimes a garden needs more than simple maintenance, in which case re-laying, or laying a new lawn, is a great option. We offer bespoke turfing for any situation, flexible for your needs. This is a professional service carried out to a high standard, laying real or artificial turf. We will always advise if your existing lawn can be regenerated before going down the more involved route of new turfing.  New planting can further complement a new lawn.

Our results are long-lasting and speak for themselves. We would like to meet you and give an honest assessment of how best you can get the results you want. Please give us a call for a no-obligations quote, so you can see if we are right for you.

As part of our turfing service we include:

  • Site Assessment – Carefully evaluate how best to lay a new lawn for you accounting for the condition of the site itself and its surroundings.
  • New lawns – Commonly after an extension or other renovation has been completed, and for new houses.
  • Re-turfing – Replacing an existing lawn in whole or in part.
  • Site Clearance - The team will remove weeds, old turf, plants, debris, rocks and stones, and other hard surfaces.
  • Soil Preparation – We rotovate (dig through), loosen and flatten the soil for the new turf to take hold.
  • Laying – We use quality turf obtained locally for the best results.
  • Forward Planning – We will place turf to take account of new flowerbeds etc. you would like (We can also create them too for you!)
  • Watering – To help the new turf get established.
  • First Cut – After about 1 month your new lawn will most likely be ready for its first cut.
  • Aftercare – We’ll let you know how to care for your new lawn.

We’re very confident you’ll be more than happy with our comprehensive service.

Caring for your new lawn

Do’s:

  • Water your turf every evening for at least 3 weeks (unless you benefit from a heavy rain shower)
  • Try to spread your weight if you need to walk on your new turf, such as by using boards with a wide surface area

Don’ts:

  • Walk on your new turf for at least 3 weeks. Try to walk around the edges if you can, to give the roots the best chance of establishing themselves.
  • Cut your grass for a minimum of 3 weeks
  • Water in the middle of the day. The Sun is at its hottest, and could scorch the new turf.
